I was recently asked what my opinion was to a particular ad about lemons, which claimed it significantly helped with all of the following: inflammation, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, cancer, eliminating parasites and bacteria. I cannot currently speak to the exact statements that were made. However, one thing most of these claims have in common is that these benefits could be traced back to the fact that lemon is a great liver/gallbladder cleanser. The liver creates bile acids that work in the intestines to digest food. If the bowels do not work properly due to not enough bile acids, bacteria and parasites can grow, thus compromising the integrity and function of the intestinal tract.
If the intestinal tract is compromised, the whole body can become more prone to inflammation and allergies. Asthma is an inflammatory allergic condition. If the intestines are compromised, there is less production of Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD), an endogenous enzyme that breaks down histamine. If there is a histamine buildup, it could lead to hypertension. Thus, liver cleansing via lemons can combat all of this.
The liver processes hormones, so if it is sluggish, the hormones will not be cleared as well, hence altered mood and blood sugar, and reproductive disorders. Lemons are citrus, which is known to be high in Vitamin C. High dose Intravenous (IV) Vitamin C is an alternative cancer therapy. Fruits and vegetables in general contain antioxidants, which help prevent and fight not only cancer, but any damage or mutation in the body. Thus, they are great for the kidneys as well to prevent further damage in the midst of chronic kidney disease. Vitamin C also boosts the immune system. You can begin using lemons more by drinking hot water with lemon juice and shaved lemon peel first in the morning.
