Prevention can serve many different purposes:
- You are someone who feels healthy and you want to know either how to stay healthy or optimize your health
- You are someone who has a family history of certain conditions and you want to know how to keep from getting them
I keep Prevention as a focus of mine because I want people to know that doctors do not become doctors to make money off you being sick. We become doctors because we want to help you. We want to see you be well. My intentions in becoming a doctor were to help people heal and to prevent illness from happening in the first place.
Through my prevention work with clients, I analyze an individual’s life, their habits, their history, their family’s history, which factors of their lifestyle are working for them and which factors needs to change, what things they see as ‘not a big deal’ but are in fact significant, and what do their genetics say about their health.
Let’s go through a few examples of what I may discover during your visit with me:
- Trouble sleeping at night
- Lack of energy, always tired
- Food cravings
- Only monitoring high blood pressure or high blood sugar but unaware of how your kidneys are functioning. Hypertension and Diabetes place you at high risk for Kidney Disease. It is possible to preserve and restore kidney function. It is best for you to be proactive about this early on, and I can teach you how to do that. Start here by downloading my FREE E-book on Monitoring Your Own Kidney Function.
- Eating habits or lifestyle habits that are conducive to eventually getting the conditions common in your family even if you do not have them now, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, poor circulation, hypothyroidism, or autoimmune disorders.
- Anxiety
- Heartburn
- Not drinking enough water
- Gas and/or frequent abdominal bloating
- Not having a bowel movement at least once per day
- Chronic musculoskeletal pains, stiffness, or weakness that may keep you from being as physically active as you could be
- Hair and skincare products that can be disrupting your hormones, as well as contribute to acne and other skin problems
- Genes associated with insulin resistance or elevated risk of high cholesterol
- Genes showing what diet may be best for you and which foods to avoid, such as gluten and dairy
- Genes associated with genetic variances of certain nutrients, such as:
- Vitamin B6 – critical for several neurological functions and the production of serotonin, which helps keep your mood balanced – by the way, this vitamin can become deficient with oral contraceptives.
- Vitamin B12 – your body may have greater need for a different form of B12 for proper absorption and assimilation than the form commonly seen in many multivitamins, which is cyanocobalamin. B12 is important for the production of several neurotransmitters, energy, blood cells, and cardiovascular health via balancing homocysteine.
Through various adjustments to these areas and more, a person’s long-term future of health, finances, and choices can be shifted dramatically for the better. Keep your focus on Prevention and you can actually save money, time, and preserve the quality of life you want.
