Did you know that you can create your own Halloween snacks that are even healthier than what you would have bought in the store? Rule of thumb: Whenever you make something yourself, it is usually healthier purely based on the fact that it will have zero to minimal preservatives or additives.
I’m a chocolate fan so I can speak to this because I have done it!
Solid chocolate: Mix pure cocoa powder with melted coconut oil and a sweetener. Then pour the mix in whatever type of container you wish and place it in the refrigerator to solidify. You can even get some ‘festive appropriate’ cookie cutter shapes to make it more fun.
Liquid chocolate: Mix pure cocoa powder with olive oil (or melted coconut oil if you plan to eat it shortly after making, you are not going to pour it over anything cold like ice cream, and it is not cold in your house – coconut oil solidifies in cold temperatures) and add in a sweetener. Then drizzle over whatever you like.
The sweetener I use is typically stevia since it does not spike my blood sugar or create the symptoms of inflammation that processed sugar would do to me.
Orange coloring can be made with blended or juiced carrot. Turmeric powder can be used to make yellow or yellowish-orange color.
Here are a couple sites for healthier Halloween recipe ideas for kids, adults, and kids in adult bodies 🙂 . You will find that some of these recipes are not sugar or candy based, and are full of nutrition!

Remember to choose moderation. So if that means you have left-over candy and do not want to eat it, then either give it away or throw it away. I do not like to be wasteful but I learned over the years to first prioritize my body. But try to not have left-over candy in the first place by minimizing how much you purchase. Most families tend to over-buy and over-prepare food during the holidays. Think about how much you actually need or want for the day’s event and only buy that. Depending on what you are trying to create, it may cost more to do it this way, but the savings will show in your body.
Happy Halloween!
